January 31, 2026Briefly describe your thoughts and feelings about mental illness now.
had very repulsive and narrow thoughts about people with mental illness. I hadmany scary feelings about these people so I used be unfriendly. The factor thatmade me to be unfriendly was that the people from mental illness are alwaysviolent and their symptoms and behaviour can be easily distinguished fromothers. I thought these people were always being antagonistic and ready toattack. My whole imagination of mental illness was that they were withaggressive behaviour. I was unaware about the different types of treatment processof mental illness. There is a belief in my country that mental illness is thecurse of God or due to some supernatural spirt and that can be only cured byrituals and religious ceremonies.
Thisknowledge about mental illness gave me a negative attitude. I thought thatpeople with mental illness must be isolated from society as they couldnâ€t excelany activities and had a thought that they cannot have any achievements intheir life. As I had a negative attitude I kept a distance from people whohaving mental disorder and decided not to interact with them. In my country webelieved that mental illness was lineage so we kept a distance from the wholefamily.
Thefeelings and the knowledge I gained from my society have influenced mybehaviour negatively. Therefore, I restricted myself from talking, touching orinteracting with mental retarded people. I was scared of the aggressivebehaviour and had the fear that mental retarded people being violent andoffensive.
Ihope to achieve a deep knowledge and understanding on the different types ofmental illness and their treatment. I would also want to know more about mentalillness and to realize the fact that all mental illness is not aggressive innature. Besides, I want to get a good understanding of the pharmacological sideof mental illness so that I can distinguish between a diseased and non-diseasedperson.
TheDVD gave me an insight that aggressiveness is one of the behaviour of mentalretarded people. I came to know there are different types of behaviours andsymptoms for mental illness. The DVD was interesting, as it gave me theknowledge that mental retarded people can achieve a lot of things and they aretalented in some area as well as have the capability to excel different kind ofactivities. The DVD was informative, that aid me to change my negative attitudeinto positive towards mental retarded people. Overall, the DVD was motivatingand had educational values of mental illness.
